Polypropylene is a kind of common plastic with excellent mechanics property, heat-resistant property and other properties as well as low cost. In recent years, it had become one of the several kinds of plastics whose production have been gotten a very rapid raise and was widely used in various fields of industry production. But polypropylene also has some shortcomings such as fragile at low temperature, comparatively low mechanical tensile and hardness, large shrink rate while molding, low surface energy, lacking function units on its molecular chain, dye-resistance, difficult to combine with other polar polymers et al. These shortcomings confined polypropylene's further application. In this article, the method of solid phase polymerization was used to synthesis PP-g-AA. The effects on graft level and the molecular of grafted PP was studied in the paper. These effects includes methods of grafting polymerization, synthesis condition and reagents ratio. We optimized the reaction condition and the reagents ratio of solid phase graft polymerization and explored the kinetics of solid phase graft polymerization of acrylic acid on polypropylene. Finially, We studied the PP/PA6 blend's mechanical propertys and crystallization behavior by using grafted PP as polymer compatilizer in PP/PA6 blend system. In the reaction of solid phase graft polymerization of AA on PP, we knew from orthodoxy experimental that the effects importance on graft level were listed as follows: concentration of initiator, polymerization temperature, interface reagent concentration and AA concentration. The higtest graft level and graft efficiency were 5.45% and 54.5% respectively under the best reaction condition:temperature 120 癈,PP/AA/BPO/xylene=100/20/3/10.The effects of reaction temperature initiator, interface agent and graft monomer on solid phase graft polymerization of AA on PP were similar. The graft level raise at first and drop in the later with the temperature, amount of materials mentioned above increasing. The swelling time ofinterface agent to PP had influence on graft level, with the swelling time prolonged, the graft level increased slowly and became stable when swelling time exceeds 90 min. In this article, by using styrene as second graft monomer to graft copolymerization with PP,we found that adding a few styrene to this solid phase reaction system could greatly enhance the graft level and the graft level increased constantly with the amount of styrene increase. We also studied the effects of solid phase reaction condition on MI values of grafted PP.The kinetics of solid phase graft polymerization of AA on PP was studied in the paper. We putted up with the corresponding mechanism and built up the model of polymerization rate Rp, g=Aexp (桬a/RT) [I] [M]0'78 by assuming that the radical termination reaction of solid phase polymerization was single radical termination. The value of frequency factor and the apparent reactive energy were 6. 868X109 and 58. 89KJ/mol respectively. Finially, the grafted PP were used in PP/PA6 blend system as compatilizer. We found that the strength intensity bend intensity as well as Izod of the alloy increased with the amount and graft level of grafted PP raised. WE discovered that PP-g-AA-co-St enhanced the mechanical property of PP/PA6 blend most by comparing three kinds of grafted PP:PP-g-MAH, PP-g-AA and PP-g-AA-co-St. The micro phase structure of PP/PA6 blend and crystallization behavior were studied either in the paper. The research project was kindly sponsored by the basic research fund of the Sinopec Corporation.
