JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule is a improvement form of prepared drugs of JinShuiLiuJunJian which made by Zhang Jinyue in Ming Dynasty, it is made of Rhizoma PinelliaeN Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Poria and Radix Rehmanniae Preparata. Shen Ying-sen and Zhao Chang-ying in Medical College of Jinan University had done long-term research of clinic and animal experiments, the result of research indicated that JinShuiLiuJunJian had well therapeutic effect to chronic bronchitis. In order to marketing JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule, its quality standard must be built. Parts of quality standard of JinShuiLiuJunJian had been built in prophase researches. The aim of this research is to build a set of quality standard of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule, and carry out study of the antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities of several medical components regarding of their pharmacology, which can be used for the further pharmacology study of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule.This paper researched its quality control method by modern chromatographic and spectrographic instrument. We selected 3 -sitosteryl > hesperidin and total alkaloids compounds as the main medical components for quality standard of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule considering their pharmacology. In the study of quantitative analysis of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule, the thin layer chromatographic scanning was used to determine the content of 3 -sitosteryl in JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule, The content of total alkaloids compounds in JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry, and the content of hesperidin in JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. So the quantitative determination methods of main medical components in JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule were established. The 3 -sitosteryl and hesperidin's pharmacodynamics animal experiment on anti-inflammatory and expectorant effects was researched. The result of animal experiment indicated that we can fix on 3 -sitosteryl as the active component of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule and it proved that our choice was correct and effective. Sowe established the content determination item of king drug-Rhizoma Pinelliae in JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule.Chronic bronchitis can not only directly damage the respiratory tract and lung, but also the produced free radicals and induced lipid peroxide can aggravate lung damnification and accelerate the development of chronic bronchitis. So the study of antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities of target component is of significant to the further pharmacology study of JinShuiLiuJunJian capsule. The scavenging action to hydroxyl free radicals of P -sitosteryl was tested by Fenton reaction by the fluorescent methods. The ultraviolet ultraspectrophotometry was used to determine the influence of P -sitosteryl to superoxide anion produced by pyrogallol antoxidation, and to determine the elimination action to superoxide anion generated by Xanthine-Xanthine oxidase. On the basis of these to estimate the ability of antioxidation of P -sitosteryl, and presume the potential as an extraneous antioxidant.
