40Mn2 steel is widely applied to produce parts which needs both good strength and tenacity on the automobiles, tractors, machine tools and other machines. It's not so easily to be cutted as the average carbolic steel. Currently the popular method of machining 40Mn2 steel is blade cutting. But the workpiece is easy to be unformed when the remainder is big. Sometimes it's evenly easy to damage the tools. So it's not reach the demand of the development of production. It's valuable and important to find a new way.The heavy belt-grinding is brought forward in this thesis. It is a new machining method, which combined the characters of heavy-duty grinding and belt-grinding together, with high efficiency and low cost. The grind ability of 40Mn2 is analyzed in this thesis. It's also studied about the mechanism of the heavy belt-grinding, with the analysis of the main parameters to value the method and the affecting factors of the parameters.On the basis of the above analysis and lots of experiments, the grinding efficiency, temperature and the durability of belt in the heavy belt-grinding are researched. The technological parameters and the condition of cooling of the heavy belt-grinding in 40Mn2 are also optimized.According to the requirement of thinning out the small head of 40Mn2 connecting rod, the method of integration of heavy belt-grinding with cylindrical columniation wheel grinding is put forward. It is proved in the production practice that the technology is quite effective, and more advanced and lower cost than traditional blade cutting.The results indicate that producing 40Mn2 with the technology of the heavy belt-grinding is feasible. During the grinding, coarse granularity zirconium corundum belt is preferred to get higher efficiency, lower temperature and longer durability. Chose of the grinding parameters is important to get good grinding effect.Cooling condition is pivotal in the heavy belt-grinding. In the grinding, water soluble cooling ant should be used, with large flux stress cooling style, in order to reduce the grind temperature, and avoid the die burn of the workpiece.
