Belt grinding technology, which has grinding and polishing characteristic at the same time, is thought as a new machining technology with excellent machining quality, high machining efficiency, low energy consumption and extensive application for its advantages such as "cold state" grinding, steady grinding speed, high grinding precision and low machining cost. Compared with traditional material machining technologies such as turning, milling and wheel grinding, the surface machining quality and the machining technical properties of metallic material such as aluminum alloy could be improved efficiently by belt grinding process, and the material machining cost could be also reduced greatly. But up to now, the systematic investigation on belt grinding machining and its mechanism of metallic material such as aluminum alloy has not enough plenitude. It is very necessary to investigate the belt grinding technology and its machining mechanism of metallic materials such as aluminum alloy in order to establish the belt grinding machining theory of metallic material, to develop the effective technology control methods of belt grinding for metallic material, and to extend the application scope of belt grinding technology.The paper take the aluminum alloy material as research object, on the basis of the outside round belt grinding technology, thoroughly developed the experimental study on the belt grinding mechanism for aluminum alloy.Firstly, the domestic and foreign research actualities about belt grinding and abrasive belt machine were collected and concluded. The significance of belt grinding mechanism for aluminum alloy was analyzed in this thesis.Secondly, on the basis of our former research, the mechanism and wearing of belt grinding was studied. The formula of belt grinding force and belt grinding power and belt grinding temperature was introduced. At last, the experimental study on the belt grinding mechanism for aluminum alloy were finished, the influence of belt grinding processing factors, which included abrasive belt speed, work piece speed and abrasive depth on the grinding pressure, surface roughness, material removal rate and grinding temperature of aluminum alloy was investigated.
