A kind of new experimental molding machine, air impact experimental molding machine with formed squeeze head pushed by air fluid was designed and manufactured. The new machine combined air impact molding with formed squeeze head press molding by making them conduct at the same working position, at the same time and driven by the same dynamic source.In this paper, the new molding machine is tested and studied. The results indicate: Sand mold compactedness is high and homogeneous; It not only eliminates the "arch effects" of sand mold with high pattern and large deep concave ratio, but also eliminates the loose sand layer on top of the sand mold. Thus it totally overcomes the shortcomings of pure air impact molding. Moreover, the new molding machine can be used in the molding of low sandmold, so it widens the application range of pure air impact molding. This is a kind of high speed, high efficiency, low investment and low energy consumption compacting machine.The compacting mechanism of the new molding machine is investigated by the dynamic testing the compacting process. During the pre-compacting process, molding sand is pre-compacted by the formed squeeze head and a pre-compacting sand layer is formed. The primary compacting sand layer not only reduces the compression ratio difference between deep concave area and the top of pattern, but also avails to compacting effects. During compacting process, sand mold is compacted by air impact and pressed by the squeeze head at the same time. It is the composite function of compacting sand that makes the compacting effects of the new air impact molding machine with formed squeeze head pushed by air fluid is better than pure air impact molding machine by far.
