Pigmentary TiO2 is commercially produced mainly in both sulphate and chloride technology. Comparing with the sulphate process, the chloride method possesses many advantages. Because of this, chloride process is to be a new tendency of TiO2 production. Titanium resources in Panzhihua area, dominate the raw material supply of Chinese TiO2 industrial. However, the chloride process requires a high quality TiOi feedstock, especially strictly limiting the component of CaO and MgO. Generally speaking, Panzhihua's resources with high content of CaO and MgO can not be employed as the reactant of chloride process. So , it is important to improve the reaction condition so as to make the chloride method to fit the material ore of Panzhihua.The technical characteristics and the operation conditions of the chloride process is systemically analyzed in the paper. A new improved salt chloride process is suggested as to be the most practical and effective process route to deal with the feedstock with high component of CaO and MgO, such as Panzhihua ore. The heat balance equation and the temperature model of a chlorinator was established. The factors that affect the heat balance and the temperature distribution curves are discussed. The primary factors affecting the heat balance are operating temperature and the component of the oxygen in the reaction gas . The heat balance influence raised by fluctuation of the chlorine flux is less than oxygen. The another factor that affects the temperature distribution curves of chlorinator come down to fluctuation of the chlorine flux. Furthermore only when the chlorine flux is less than 0.8m/s, it can affect the temperature distribution curves obviously.These results provide a reference to control the temperature fluctuations of salt chlorinator, improve the capacity of dust collecting system and prolong the active operation cycle of chlorinator. Based on The heat balance equation and thetemperature model of a chlorinator, the temperature control system improve proposal was provided. The proposal completely solved the temperature fluctuation of the salt chlorinator, under capacity of the dust collecting system and short active operation cycle of the chlorinator in the salt chloride process at present in china.
