With the development of explosive cladding technology it has been widely used in many aspects of economic construction, but there are many key problems, such as the motion of flyer plate, the formation of jet, the effect of boundary and the instability of interface, etc., to be investigated in good earnest. Some key factors affecting the quality of explosive cladding are studied systematically by experiments and theoretic analysis, which deepen the understanding of the essence of explosive welding.Through investigating the mechanism and technological process of explosive cladding, and the relationship between the quality and the parameters such as the velocity of flyer plate, the static and flex angles, the motion velocity of joint, the thickness and property of flyer plate and base plate, the detonation velocity of explosive, residual stress and strain in explosive composite, boundary effect etc. some measures are proposed to avoid boundary effect and eliminate residual stress and strain in explosive composite. The results of cladding experiments, electron microscopic scanning and ultrasonic inspection show that the measures to improve the quality of explosive cladding are effective.Experimental results show that it is feasible and practical to use neural networks and the evaluation method based on the misty mathematic model to optimize the parameters of explosive cladding. The experience obtained is valuable to the industrialization of explosive cladding in this paper.
