This thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the research progress of transition mental complex of uncommon oxidation states was reviewed and the application of this system in the field of polymer chemistry was prospected. The mechanism of the redox system was discussed. Forty-eight references were cited. And it was summarized in this paper on the initiators for the graft copolymerization onto starch or polyvinyl alcohol. In the second chapter, the graft copolymerization initiated by Ag(III) or Cu( III) were discussed. The effects of reaction temperature, initiator concentration, monomer concentration on graft copolymerization were investigated. The graft copolymer with high grafting efficiency was obtained. The possible initiation mechanism was proposed. In the third chapter, it was a new field on microwave-induced organic reaction enhancement chemistry (for short, MORE chemistry). This work was found a novel method that can provide N-aryl phthalimides with effective biological and extensive use. The advantages of this experiment were rapid, economical and easy to purif~,t the products. In the forth chapter, Atom transfer polymerization of styrene has been studied, benzyl chloride as initiator, iron (H)- 1,1 O-phenanthroline (Fe (JI)/phen) complex as catalyst. The molecular weight distribution is better controlled (1. 1
