With the application of advanced manufacturing technologies, there are rapid developments in machining industry. Therefore, with the increasing of information and knowledge, the traditional management modes and technologies could not meet the increasing needs of modern machining. In a research and production complex, there are a lot of technical problems concerning innovations. This paper addresses the problems in the construction of our NC training center, and point out the key difficulty in manufacturing process. Based on the computer networks, an IDNC-based modern integrated machining shop model has been built, and now it has been put into practice step by step. Up to now, the main results as fellow.Firstly, the problems of construction of integrated machining shops and their corresponding functions are addressed. Based upon other researching works and our analysis and discussion, a modern NC machining shop model has been proposed. This model could meet the machining requirements of a large research and production complex in the future development.Secondly, by the use of the above shop model, a practical real integrated machining shop model has been developed for aNC training center. Now, the machining tools have been connected with workstation, which powered with software, and part of the database has been built. In the workshop, with the QT-200 series of MAZATROL FUSION 640T tools, network-based teaching and training could be realized. Considering the characters of research and production complex, for the choice of functions, we choice 3M, RP, networks and database technology. Based upon the successful applications of the multi-agent technology, the ideas of multi-agent are introduced in the shop planning, scheduling and control. In the practice of integrating NC tools in a machining shop, one should realize step by step under an overall planning which considering the practical problems of the shop. At the end of 2001-2003, under the oriented project support of CAEP, a NC training center hasbeen built. In the year of 2001, the main works includes equipment choice, install, and adjustA local network has been built to connect the machines tools and workstation, and though the server can connect to Internet. The software used in our integrated machining workshop has been integrated too. A Web page of NC training is under constructing, and a web-based failure database of NC tools is completed.
