As the growing use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), developing methods for TCM manufacture process analysis and quality control has been gotten more and more attention.. In recent years, Near-infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) has grown dramatically and is widely used in many areas. In this thesis, the application of NIRS in the process analysis and quantity control during TCM manufacture is studied.Firstly, NIRS was used to develop a rapid identification method for donkeyhide glue. Combined with pattern recognition techniques, a NIRS calibration model was build to detect the fake of donkeyhide glue. The results showed that the proposed method was more rapid and accurate than conventional methods to identify donkeyhide glue.Secondly, the content of the salvianic acid A and protocatechualdchyde in Saliva miltiorrhiza extracts and Saliva miltiorrhiza extracting solution was determined by using NIRS. The results showed that this method could be applied in on-line detection of TCM extracting process and daily quantitative analysis of TCM products. At last, a new method for building NIRS calibration model using support vector regression (SVR) was proposed to model the nonlinear relation between NIRS and concentration of TCM's components. After NIRS data of the extracting solution of Panax notoginseng herb were processed with pretreatment and principal component analysis, NIRS calibration models of ginsenoside Rgl, Rb1, Rd, and panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) were built using SVR. The proposed method was compared with partial least square regression and radial-basis function neural network (RBFNN) modeling methods. The results showed that the predictive accuracy of NIR calibration models built by SVR was much better than that of the models built by PLSR and RBFNN. Therefore, the method could be applied to NIR analysis for extraction process of Chinese medicine. In a word, the application of NIRS in quality control and process analysis of the TCM production has a good potential.
