Aimed at developing open architecture CNC system for cam grinder, the design of hardware and software is included and the software design is the focus in this paper. Programmable Multiple Axis Controller(PMAC) is used in the system and good result has been gotten.The method of machining different types of planar cams in the mode of centered translating structure is introduced in this paper. Steady speed grinding is realized in this mode. At the same time, the algorithm based on virtual synthetic velocity of linear moving and rotary speed is obtained in the condition of steady speed grinding.Industry PC(IPC) and PMAC-2Lite form dual CPUs structure that is adopting in the CNC system. This structure is regarded as the control center. In this paper, hardware structure, CNC part and control mode of servo system have been showed. CNC system includes two parts: PMAC real time control software and system management software. Rough interpolation at 0.1 degree interval is completed by IPC and finishing interpolation is completed by PMAC-2Lite that has a higher real time performance. Techniques of developing have been introduced which adopt VC++ and PCOMM32 to realize system management software. Automatic programming and machining simulation have designed in the CNC system. Inputting design parameters of cam mechanism through the interface of programming system in automatic programming, the special program of machining planar cam is generated automatically. Machining simulation is to simulate the machining process of grinding wheel and planar cam by using animation method, so as to verify the validity of NC code. Based on the environment of PEWIN32, PLC programs realize the function that control electric in the CNC system.System debugging includes two processes: system first debugging and machining debugging. These two processes are detailedly analyzed in this paper. A lot of data are provided in the process of debugging. The bestdebugging parameters are gotten to be fit for CNC system.
