With the rapid development of network technology, new techniques such as transmission and format making on Internet are invented one by one, which infuses new life into the traditional industry of Packaging and Printing. The transmission of digital images is inevitable for the digitisation and the network application of the industry of Packaging and Printing. These images can be copied, juggled and deleted easily and will be destroyed unlawfully and maliciously. And how to protect the security of these images transmitting on Internet now becomes a big problem to realize and improve the digitisation and the network application of the industry of Packaging and Printing. The Information Hiding technology and traditional Cryptography are proposed to use to protect these images in this paper. First, based on the characteristics of the printing images and Human Vision system, the algorithm to embed and extract information without the original host image in the spatial domain is devised. Second, the algorithm is improved to have higher security by using traditional Cryptography algorithm. And a new way of encryption is proposed here, so that the information embedded in a host image can only be extracted by those whohave the right key. Finally, based on the algorithm, with Visual C++ 6.0 as the developing kit, the program is developed to embed secret information in the 24-bit color bitmap that is called the host image. The imperceptibility and capacity to hold secret information are satisfying in most experiments. Thus the security of the digital image on Internet can be protected and the digitisation and the network application of the industry of Packaging and Printing can be accelerated.
