Due to its high intensity and small focal spot, precisely adjustable heating duration and small heating affected area, pulse YAG laser beam is advantageous in tiny and precision metallic material working and processing. Technical scheme presented in this paper realized repeatable operation of welding of micron sized working pieces and thus opens a new application field. Based on the physical principles of laser-beam interactions with materials, various factors affecting welding quality are analysed. On the paper, the laser powder-cladding technique and bridge-stripe welding technique is improved and optimum cladding layer thickness is established. With the applications of these new techniques the difficulties encountered in practice of different-type welding of micron sized pieces were successfully solved. Solutions of problems still faced in conventional welding techniques are put forward and some have been proved to be very effective. These technologies own great value to be applied and pushed on, which is the developing direction of modern laser welding.
