At present, static compaction used to form function ceramics. But because the fiction between powder and die wall interferes with the transfer of press, the density of ceramic body distributes uneven. On the other side, the green density is hard to increase for the restriction of intensity of die, which affects directly the quality and property of function ceramics product.Based on the analysis of domestic and overseas situation of function ceramics powder compaction and sintering, we bring forward a new method to compact function ceramics. On this research, based on the summarization of general rule of regular static compaction, the author applied low-voltage electromagnetic forming, with self-made electromagnetic forming machine, on compacting several kinds of electronic ceramics powders by way of indirect process. The effects of technical parameters -such as discharge voltage, discharge times and aspect ratio - on the green density of ceramics were analyzed systematically. Subsequently, the density of ceramics samples were tested after sintering, which used to analyze the effects of compaction parameters on final ceramic products. In addition, SEM was used to analyze the effects of compaction parameters on interior structure of ceramics. The difference between electromagnetic compaction and static compaction on ceramics was studied. The experiments results show that, low-voltage electromagnetic compaction is a effective method to abtain high-density ceramics; in the range of proper voltage, increasing discharge voltage can improve the sintering character of ceramic body, thereby increase the density of ceramic products; twice-discharge compaction enhance the density remarkably and improve the sintering character too; in contrast with static compaction, electromagnetic compaction not only increase the density of ceramics but also refine grain size indirectly and will improve the properties of function ceramics.
