At present, polyvinyl alcohol size, polyacrylic size and starch size are the three main sizes in the sizing market.Because PVA size can't be biodegraded; polyacrylic size has serious re-adherence; starch size has poor pasting performance and instable viscosity,thus it is high time that a kind of cheap and biodegradable size should be developped.In this paper, aiming to solve these problems, firstly a kind of grafted starch sizing agent with good pasting and excellent sizing performance was synthesized.The starch size has good desizing property and stable viscosity,thus it is a good green size with a bright future.Secondly,on the basis of polyacrylic size, a kind of emulsion copolymer sizing agent was prepared by means of emulsion copolymerization in order to improve polyacrylic size's re-adherence and instability.Thirdly, a kind of newly water-soluble polyester sizing agent was synthesized by the process of ester exchange reaction,estrification and polycondensation.The results showed the polyester size has stable viscosity and excellent film-formation property,thus it is a good size for PE fiber. At last, a kind of mixed sizes was found to reach the satisfied results of high density and low viscosity. On the basis of a large number of experiments,the mixed sizes showed stable viscosity and excellent sizing properties,thus PVA size can be replaced by the mixed sizes.
