Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is developed as a kind of separation technology since 1980s. Capillary electrophoresis is used for drug analysis extensively due to its higher separating capability and shorter migration time than other separating machines. In this paper, we developed the method of micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography to separate the nine components in compound reserpine tablets. The quantitative analysis in capillary electrophoresis requires that the analytes under study should be separated completely, but sometimes the electrophoretic separation is not separated completely. In these cases, it is difficult for quantitative analysis of capillary electrophoresis. However, chemometric resolution of these compounds is possible. The use of ANNs for quantitative CE should be a promising analytical tool in drug analysis appearently. Application of ANN in overlapped peaks of compound reserpine tablets is reviewed. There are six parts in this article totally. The basic theory and development of capillary electrophoresis are introduced, the development and application of capillary electrophoresis in drug analysis are reviewed, the simultaneous determination and separation of components in Compound Reserpine and Hydrochlorothiazide by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC) and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is described, the basic theory and development of ANNs are introduced, Application of BP-ANNs in overlapped peaks of compound reserpine tablets is demonstrated, and the determination and separation of baicalin in qingre-jiedu oral tonic by capillary zone electrophoresis is described. In this paper, the work of author is as follow: PART ONEthe development and application of capillary electrophoresis in drug analysis are reviewed. PART TWOthe simultaneous determination and separation of components in CompoundReserpine and Hydrochlorothiazide by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC) and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is described. The pH of the separation system , concentration of surfactants, buffer and organic solvents over the separation were studied as experimental variables. PART THREEDefinition and classification of artificial neural networks were introduced. The structure and algorithm of back-propagation (BP) networks, which is the most widely used one, were discussed in this paper. Application of BP-ANNs in overlapped peaks of compound reserpine tablets is demonstrated. PART FOURThe determination and separation of baicalin in qingre-jiedu oral tonic by capillary zone electrophoresis is described.Hou Aixia (Analytical Chemistry) Directed by Prof. Li Hua...
