This paper studies the relationship of infrared extinction effect of pyrotechnic agent with material granularities on the base of infrared extinction mechanism of smoke. The effects of material granularities on infrared radiancy and the whys are probed with the help of FTIR instrument through static and dynamic testings. Results show that graphite, as the forming component of smoke agent, has stronger infrared extinction capacity when its diameter becomes smaller and smaller. The results also tell that smokes show stronger obscuring capacity along with the granularities of oxidant and reducer becoming smaller and smaller together with producing more and more energy. A new kind of pyrotechnic agent based on above regularities manufactured and compared with exiting pyrotechnic agent.
