There is an outstanding outlook of laser cladding technology. Excellent performance layer can be made on the surface of inferior part by laser cladding, and costly alloy and rare metal can be saved as well as energy sources. Laser cladding technology is more and more thought highly by people. Uniting lasercladding with rare earth element (RE), can remarkably improve performance of surface of metal material. Surface more excellent.In this paper, the wear resistance of laser cladding Fe-B layer containing lanthanum element (La) on steel 45 substrate was studied, and the influence of la on Wear resistance of Laser cladding coatings was analyzed. Laser cladding experiment was performed using Fe, B4C and FeSiLa powders. Wear tests were done for cladding layer containing different rate of La .The results show that the wear resistance of cladding layer containing a certain mount of La is remarkably improved, even when baddish wear condition. It decline distinctly when the contain of La exceed the ideal amount and even worse than the wear resistance of the cladding layer that don' t contain La. The wear resistance is excellent and it is improved by 27.4 % on condition that the content of La reach about 1.92 %. It is showed that Fe-B phase structure of the cladding layer containing a certain amount of La is remarkably refined through scanning electron microscope (SEM). Based on B element (Is orbit) X-ray photoelectron microscopy (XPS) analysis of abrasion surface, the conclusion can be made that the basic consist is Fe2B phase rather than FeB phase.The research results of this paper shows that a Fe-based coatings with good surface quality can be made under a lower energy density of laser .The cladding is make up of Fe2B and cast structure, so its wear resistance is excellent. Moreover, a certain mount of La additive can remarkably fine Fe2B grain, and improve the wear resistance of cladding. Otherwise, when the contain of La exceed the ideal amount, the wear resistance of cladding is reduced for forming a mass of La2Fei7 and La.fi3.
