It is strongly expected to improve the technology of automatic and roboticized welding with the development of manufacturing. As an important part of welding automation, seam tracking plays an very important role in welding manufacture. In this paper, a seam tracking system based on photoelectric sensor which consisted of a photoelectric sensor, a sub-system of control and executive machine is studied. And a set of seam tracking software is developed using assembly language for MSC-51 microcomputer. Because the output from sensor is great different under the different states of material surface, lots of photoelectric sensor failed to seam tracking. In this paper, a method of comparing the signal is put forward after a great deal experiments. And by this way, the precision of the photoelectric sensor has been great improved. Based on the analysis of previous work, a sensor-rotating model is puts forward in this paper. The author set up the corresponding mathematical model after theoretical analysis and designed a fuzzy control system. Simulation research indicates that it is simple and tried; what's more, it also has highly precise. The technique of fuzzy control improves the system in stability and precision. The delay of welding torch execution is a complex problem under the situation of leading sensor. In this paper we propose a method by setting the memory of status information. By using this method, it becomes very easy to solve this problem effectively, and greatly simplifies the software, improves the precision of system. Welding experiments shows that the seam tracking system we studied achieves the aim of design. It has the advantage of low cost and high capability. So it has highly practical application value.
