The more interest which calixarene has aroused is due to its molecular structure and physical chemistry property. Since Zinke discovered calixarene in 1940s, the synthesis of calixarene was improved continuously and more calixarene derivatives, like ester, ether, ketone derivatives, calixcrowns, chiral calixarenes, heteroatom calixarenes and calix polymers etc., were obtained. The researche on calix[4]arene went mature, and they were widely used now. The polymer materials which show molecular recognition to some substrates can be obtained by doping or attaching calixarenes to polymers and polymerizing the calixarene monomers. These polymer materials can be applied in membrane transfer, chemical sensors, chromatographical separation and detection etc. So calixarene derivative containing glycidyl group was synthesized, after anchoring calixarene to polymer's backbone, the complexation properties towards alkali metal ions and transition metal ions and thermal stability of calixarene polymer were studied in this thesis.In chapter 1, a review of calixarene structures, syntheses, chemical modifications, properties and applications were presented.In Chapter 2, 1,3-diglycidyl calix[4]arene was synthesized by the reaction of p-tert-butyl-calix[4]arene and glycidyl tosylate.In Chapter 3, two calixarene-linked chitosans were synthesized by the reaction of chitosan with 1,3-diglycidyl calix[4] arene. Their structures were characterized by Infrared spectra, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The adsorption capacity of these two cross-linked chitosans towards Co2+, Cu2+ Zn2+, Ni2+ and Na+ ,. K+ , Cs+ was studied. The calixarene-linked chitosan exhibited much higher adsorption ability towards Na+, K+,Cs+ than its mother chitosan did. The adsorption capacity of linked chitosan towards Co2+ Cu2+ Zn+ Ni2+ varied with the linked model.In Chapter 4, calixarene crosslinked polysiloxane was obtained by being crosslinked side chain N-( β -aminoethyi)aminopropyl silicon oil with 1,3-diglycidyl calix[4]arene. The thermal stability of polysiloxane was studied by changing the amount of added calixarene, and the optimum amount added was determined under experimental condition. The thermal stability of calixarene crosslinked polysiloxane was enchanced compared with that of l,3-bis(l',2'-epoxypropoxy)benzene crosslinked polysiloxane.
