Owing to its pre-organized structure, calixarene is currently a popular molecular platform for designing highly selective receptors. Modified calixarene derivatives with additional binding sites at the lower rim enhance the binding ability of the parent calixarene. A number of calixarene-based receptors with selectivity for the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals have been reported, but the receptors with selectivities towards soft metal ions are still undeveloped. This thesis describes the syntheses and complexation properties of some novel calixarene aza derivatives and polymers.By reacting tetra-epoxy-propyl calix[6]-1,4-crown-4 with chitosan, a new type chitosan derivative grafted by tetra-epoxy-propyl calix[6]-1,4-crown-4 was synthesized, and its complexation behavior with metal cations by UV-vis was investigated. Moreover, two novel calix[4]arene derivatives and a new double-calix[4]arene containing amides and schiff-base units were synthesized, and we also designed and synthesized a new chromogenic calix[4]arene derivative containing amide groups, schiff-base and azo-groups at the lower rim. Their absorptive properties toward metal ions and amino acid and their UV-vis and fluorescent spectra were investigated.
