In this thesis, the preparation of nanotitania and photocatalytic degradation of pyridine and its derivatives in TiO2 suspension system was investigated.Nanotitania powder was prepared by Sol-Gel, Hydrothermal and Hydrolysis method from tetrabutyl titanate.As-prepared powders were charaterized by XRD technique. The hydrolysis method is simple and can be easily handled. TiO2 is anatase at calcining temperature 500℃ , while at 600℃TiO2 begins to transform from anatase to rutile. In TiO2 suspension systems, photocatalytic degradation of pyridine with violet light was studied. The results show that the amount of catalyst is 50mg/40ml, the photocatalytic degradation reaction is a first-order reaction; the degradation efficiency in alkali is better than in acid. The rings of pyridine , 8-quinolinol, 2-2' bipyridyl and quinoline were opened in TiO2 suspension system with violet light. Nitrogen in pyridine ring converts to ammonia nitrogen (AN). The violet spetrum of the syetems also was investigated. The preparation of pholocatalysls coaled on the expanded pearlilc (EP) , silica-gel and alumia surface by sol-gel technique were proposed. The quantity of TiCVSiO2 is 40mg/40ml , the utilization ratio of the TiO2/SiO2 is seven times of purity TiO2 powers. The quantity of TiO2/Al2O3 is 10mg/40ml , the utilization ratio of the catalyst is seven times of purity TiO2 powers. The amount of catalyst coated on the EP is 400mg/40ml . The activate life of TiO2 coated on EP is long, and TiO2/EP can be retrieved and reused. In TiO2EP suspension system, pyridine and its derivatives were degraded under sunlight , after seven hours 8-quinolinol, 2-2'bipyridyl, pyridine and benzotriazole were completely degraded, while quinoline only degraded 70%.
