The importance and major difficulties that emerge during the computer aided tower virtual assembly are briefly summarized. Combined with the history of overseas computer aided design (CAD) technology and domestic tower manufacturing enterprises'capability, domestic tower virtual assembly and its related software's development are stated. As a theoretical foundation for the thesis, the following subjects are thoroughly discussed: Object-oriented programming technology, methods and kernels; database system's development history and its priorities to its former counterparts; three –dimensional graphics'coordinate transformation theory and its application hints; ridge-to-directrix operation and its solving techniques with spatial vectors. With the inconvenience of constructing all the solids of the complete tower being taken into account, the framework with lines replacing the corresponding solids is put forward to guide users to visualize the solids that meet their demands. Three-dimensional tower mathematical model of the Three-dimensional tower is set up on the basis of object-oriented (OO) software thoughts. AutoCAD-based further development tool-ObjectARX (Object AutoCAD Runtime eXtension) is selected as the SDK with ObjectARX, OpenGL language and Solid Edge-based further development tool being evaluated. Furthermore, specific tower data storing and indexing scheme is proposed and carried out after relational database's (RDB) design steps, data normalization and relational patterns are analyzed. The last part of the thesis is assigned to discuss the computer aided tower virtual assembly dynamically linking library (DLL) in detail, including the specific development methods and DLLs'utilizations when applied to assist the towers'visualization.
