In Iron& Steel Industry, research of net-shape or near-net-shape, especially thin slab casting and rolling, which manufacturing to make products with good precision and productivity has been performed and rapidly developed by many investigators. In recent years, the need of manufacturing better goods in the light of precision as well as quality has also been increased. The forming law of thin slan rolling was investigated by computer numerical simulation. A brief introduction of the project and main results are as following:In this work, an integrated finite element model has been developed, which can be used to simulation the process of descale, roughing rolling and finishing rolling.During the simulation of the thin slab rolling process, the large deformation of the slab should be considered, as well as geometrical and material nonlinear. By means of MSC.MARC/Mentat, the element, which has geometrical nonlinear option, can be used. As for material nonlinear and elastic-plastic model is introduced, By selecting proper contact element, thermo-mechanical 3-D solid element 7 with corresponding element option and set corresponding parameters, the simulation of contact between the rollers and thin slab can be performed, And the mechanical model is established, the loadcase has been submitted, the result is processed by ORIGIN software in order to make it visualized. The process of thin slab rolling is simulated by 3D elastic-plastic FEM, The stress, strain and temperature fields, as well as of the character of the non-uniform deformation of the slab is obtained. A new way which can be used in further simulation has been provided.
