Cutting with a saw is a way which is used most widely and has the most volume of machining in the process of wood. The quality of the workpiece surface is subject to the dynamic characteristic of the cutting system, so the dynamic characteristic of the cutting system has the important meaning during the cutting process in terms of improving the quality of the workpiece, reducing the volume of cutting, increasing the percentage of out-turn, lessening the vibration and the noise, improving the working condition. Band saw, circular saw and frame saw are mainly used in wood cutting. Frame saw has its own advantage in thin wood board cutting, the advantage mainly includes small saw kerf and high percentage of out-turn, In this paper a study has been made about the feeding mechanism of the fame saw and an optimization mathematic model is made by using mechanical optimization design method in order to optimize the length ratio of members of the feeding mechanicsm. An example is also taken to prove the feasibility of the optimization model. An analysis on the cutting force has been made by means of experiment and theory knowledge in order to study the power expenditure and the dynamic characteristic during the cutting procedure. As a result, some suggestion can be obtained on the main electromotor selection and the design of flywheel. At last the analysis on the relations among the tention of the saw, the side force and the side displacement has been made. This paper tends to provide some help on the frame saw design and the decision of machining techincs for those manufacturers who make frame saw in our country.
