People understand the importance of eco-environmental water demand gradually after a series of eco-environmental problems such as rive filling up, wetland fading away, water quality deteriorating, river running off happened. In 1990's research on eco-environmental water demand has been becoming the hotspot in the field of water resource and related field.In this dissertation, the theory of eco-environmental water demand, index system, evaluation methods and many cases of eco-environmental water demand have been discussed. In the Beginning, in order to richen the theory of eco-environmental water demand, the concept, meanings, trait, impact factors and class system of eco-environmental water demand have been analyzed. Then the index system of eco-environmental water demand has been established by three different methods step by step. Based on the Projection Pursuit model which is programmed by MATLAB, 20 cities in Zhejiang Province have been taken as examples in the article. And the values of index and valuation of eco-environmental water demand in different regions has been achieved. In the end, 4 cases are used to check the projection pursuit model. Many important outcomes are abtained in this dissertation:(1) The meanings of eco-environmental water demand include water quantity and water quality double meanings, life and non-life two systems except space time and sustainable development meanings.(2) The system of eco-environmental water demand in regions influenced by nature, society and economy, ecosystem, water resource and so on in each region. Based on the analysis on these factors mentioned above, the index system about eco-environmental water demand is established. Then the relative value of each index is attained by operating Projection Pursuit Model.(3) Values of eco-environmental water demand in different regions are calculated by model. Then 20 cities chosen from 56 cities in Zhejiang province are divided into 3 levels such as good level, common level and bad level.
