Sol-gel is widely used in material preparations. However, it is less introduced into the textile finishing. In this paper the alkaline sol was prepared by the TEOS (tetraethoxysilane) and GPTMS (glycidylpropyloxytrimethoxysilane) based on the principle of the sol-gel technology. It can form film on the surface of fiber under being heated and can combine nano-zincoxide with cotton fiber. The results showed that the textiles treated by nano-zincoxide and sol had superior anti-bacterial capability. Additionally, the influence on the stability of sol-gel of different facts was studied, such as temperature, pH value, amount of water and solvent, etc, and the principle of sol-gel also analyzed by FI-IR.In this paper the dispersion stability of nano-zincoxide particles was also studied. The influence on the dispersion stability of nano-zincoxide suspension of three main facts were studied, which were the kind of dispersant (sodium polycrylicacid, sodium hexametaphosphate, dodecyl benzenesulfonic acid sodium salt), the dosage of dispersant, and the pH value. The results showed that sodium polycrylicacid as an electrolyte dispersant could lead to a very good dispersivity to nano-zincoxide suspension when pH value is 9. The particle size of nano-zincoxide is about 95nm, and the favorite dosage of dispersant is 0.1% for 1wt% nano-zincoxide.At last, it was proved by electron microscope that nano-zincoxide particles can be dispersed in sol and the particle size is mostly less lOOnm. The particle size became larger when it was treated on the cotton fiber, but most of them still were about lOOnm, and only a few congregated severely which were about 300nm. The anti-microbial experiment showed that the textiles treated by nano-zincoxide and sol which include reactive groups not only had superior anti-bacterial, but also endured laundering. After ten times laundering, the bacterial reduction rate on cotton fabrics was still above 80%.
