Polyhexamethyleneguanidine chloride (PHGC) is low-toxic and broad-spectrumantibacterial activities, so it can be widely used in mand areas. However, it isless introduced into the textile antibacterial finishes. In this paper, PHGC withhigh molecular weight and degree of polymerization was prepared by thepolycondensation of guanidine hydrochloride and hexamethylenediamine. Thecotton knitting fabrics treated by the resultant PHGC showed superiorantibacterial capability. In this paper, the synthesis of PHGC was studied and chemical structure andmolecular weight of the resultant PHGC were analyzed. The results showedthe PHGC could be used as the textile antibacterial finishing agent. The cotton.knitting fabrics were treated by the resultant PHGC, and the influence on theantibacterial effects of the fabrics treated by the different finishing processeswas studied. At the same time, the influences on the white degree of treatedbleaching fabric and the colorama of treated dyeing fabrics were tested, andwashing fastness and chlorine fastness were also tested. The results showedthe less influences on the white degree and colorama of treated fabrics weredetected, and PHGC on the treated fabrics owned good washing fastness andchlorine fastness. In this paper, a new antibacterial test method was used. This method isfeasible to evaluate the antibacterial properties of antibacterial finishing fabricbecause of the different bacterial growth between treated samples and untreatedones. It can also reflect more actually antibacterial activities of treated fabricsat the natural condition and be operated more conveniently, more rapidly andsafer. However, it can't reflect the antibacterial activities to special bacteriumof treated fabrics.
