This project is sponsored by the steel Limited Company of Maanshan. To meet the demand of production line using for producing I-steel. It will be used to measure the size automatically in the crystallization device of the I-steel. The purpose lies in guaranteeing that the mould for I-steel will be within the control range, as can make it possible to carry out standardized , high-efficiency production.The paper presents the structure, principle, function of the measurement machine for special purpose which can measure the size inside the I-steel crystallization device. The factors which will affect the machine's measurement precision are also analyzed. In the machine, roll ball screws and roll guides are used as it's body. Comparing with the traditional CMMs, it has many strongpoints, such as simple structure, cheap price and so on. Furthermore, it can be operated easily and used in workshop. Through analyzing and calculating the parameters related to structure, rolling bearing, roll ball screws and servo motor, every parameters can be valued rationally. After calibrating with laser interferometer, we can draw the relation of the motor's rolling angle and the displacement of worktable. We use fictitious three- dimensional scale to replace grating or other examine system, which can simplify the structure and make it easy to use the machine in workshop. The more important thing is we can get the result of higher precision of measurement.
