The project is sponpored by Ma'anshan Steel & Iron limited liability company.In order to measure the size of the inside I-steel crystallization device automatically,a specialized Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM) is developed,and it is suitable for the department of the steel production. Compared to manual measurement,the measuring efficiency and precision are improved greatly,and the abrasion of inside the crystallization device can be measured periodically,so the quality of semifinished steel can be ensured.The automatic measuring meachine for the size of inside the crystallization device is based on the elements of multidimensional coordinate measurement.The paper introduces the study and development of the measuring machine.It contains the design of the mechanical structure and its spare part selection,the probe system,electrical system,and analysis of the error source of the CMM.The probe system is composed of selection of probe and design of the probe circuit,and electrical system includes electrical control system and software system.The electrical control system contains: control for single axis and multi-axes movement,communications control,restrict position control, the interrupt of probe triggering control,and manual measuring control.Also the software system mainly includes measuring control and data process software, and the software system has the software for basic geometry quantity and shape position error measuring procedure besides the specialized software for the crystallization device.In addition,the paper analyzes the error source: framework error,measuring system error,measuring method error,probe error, software error, the strength and thermal deformation error,and correcting the main errors.And the paper also analyzes the measuring results which has been obtained.
