The peculiarity study, of which the HABR (Hybird Anaerobic Baffled Reactor) treats domestic wastewater at ambient temperature, shows promise for widely used .The study includes start-up, optimum operating parameters, and sludge character, post-treatment discussion. Through these experiments, some conclusions are shown as following:1. The reactor was inoculated with aerobic seed and anaerobic seed. During start-up period, the influent COD concentration was about 400mg/L, when volumetric loading rate (VLR) was 0. 82KgCOD/m3 .d, the COD removal rate maintains 91%, these characters show that the reactor has been started up successfully. Due to a low initial loading rate, granule particles haven't been founded in the reactor.2. The hydraulic retention time (HRT) is an important factor for COD of the each compartment removal rate. To this reactor the optimal HRT is 5h; the average COD removal rate reached 92.6%. When HRT is more than 5h, 50% COD has been removed during the first compartment; different phase isn't obvious in the reactor. When HRT is less than 5h, the removal rate of the first compartment decreases to less than 20%, but the sequence compartments removal rate increases. At different HRT, the removal rate of the five compartments is below 10%. So it is enough for a HABR with four compartments to treat domestic wastewater.3. The performance of HABR is stable. When HRT is 3h, double the influent COD, VLR reach 6.4KgCOD/m3.d, the total removal rate decrease from 73% to 58%. Decreasing HRT to 1.5h,at the same VLR, the rate decrease to 38%. Therefore, the influence of hydraulic loading shocking is more terrible than concentration shocking.4. The biogas production is low in treating domestic wastewater because most of gas solve in the effluent. With HRT shorting, the overall biogas quantity of system increases. The rate of biogas decreases with shorting of HRT, varying betweenO.45~0.29L/gCOD.5. In the course of treating domestic wastewater, the key factor is sludge loading. Whenthe sluge loading is increased to 0.32 KgCOD/KgVSS.d, granule particles can be found in the reactor. And when the size of particles is more than 0.56mm, the larger of the size is, the lower of the biomass.activity is.
