The AAO templates were used to prepare γ-Fe2O3 nanowires, Ni nanowires, Ni nanotubules and Ni/γ-Fe2O3 composite nanowires. The microstructure of the nanowires and nanotubules was studied by employing the TEM, SAED and XRD techniques. Experimental results show that γ-Fe2O3 nanowires have an uniform diameter with a size of 4050 nm and a length of 34 μm. The diameters of nanowires can be controlled by changing the voltage and the temperature of the electrolyte in the anode oxidation by which AAO templates were prepared. The β-FeOOH nanowires can not be prepared when the temperature of the solution is below 20 ℃. The crystal structure of nanowires is dependent on the annealing temperature. When the annealing temperature is above 300 ℃ the γ-Fe2O3 nanowires will be obtained Ni nanowires have a crystal structure and Ni nanotubules have an amorphous structure. The diameter of Ni nanowires is about 4050 nm, and the thickness of the wall of Ni nanotubules is about 310 nm. The thickness of the wall of Ni nanotubules changes with both the electrodeposition current density and the electrodeposition time. Ni/γ-Fe2O3 composite nanowires were prepared by AAO template assembly technique. The crystal γ-Fe2O3 nanowires with a diameter of 4045 nm stand in the center of the composite nanowires, the outer layer of the nanowires is the amorphous Ni with a thickness of about 45 nm.
