Crankshaft is a very important component of large marine engine and its key component is crank. A study of the large crank's bend forging process is made in the paper by means of FEM numerical simulation and experimental research. And a process plan with "V-type bend forging" and "smashing" is provided. Based on the elasto–plasticity FEM theory with large deformation and ANSYS/LS-DYNA that is a powerful FEM program, the bend forging and the smashing processes of the crank used in 6-S60MC-C combined crankshaft are analyzed through numerical simulation. The forming defect of the bend forging and the influence of blank and die shape parameters are studied. In addition, the proper width of bickiron is found based on the numerical simulation of the smashing process. The bending force-haul distance and the smashing force–haul distance relation curves are also given. All of these provide theoretical basis for practice. Two experiments with a scale of 1:10 are done by using lead and 45# steel. Experimental results are in good agreement with simulation results, which confirms that the process plan established in the paper is practical.
