The application of silica in S-SBR was studied in this paper. Factors affecting the mechanical properties, processing abilities and dynamic properties of S-SBR were investigated such as the ratio of silica to CB , silica types, Si69 contents and Aktiplast ST contents . Dispersion of silica in rubber was also observed through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).The results showed that with the increase of silica content in rubber, the mechanical properties of the vulcanizate improved, but the processing characteristics deteriorated. Compared with carbon black filled vulcanizate, the rolling resistance of vulcanizate filled with silica reduced, but the vulcanizate's wet skidding resisitance reduced simultaneously.The silica having a better dispersion and relative higher value of BET could improve the mechanical properties of the vulcanizates, but deteriorated the rubber's processing characteristics and reduced the rubber's dynamic abilities simultaneously.Adding Si69 to silica improved the dispersion of silica in rubber ,hence the combination of silica with rubber, subsequently improved the mechanical properties of vulcanizates. The vulcanizating time shortened. The vulcanizates' rolling resistance and wet skidding resistance reduced simultaneously.ST reduced the rubber's mechanical properties but improved the rubber's processing characteristics and the vulcanizates' dynamic properties.Compared with E-SBR, S-SBR had relative low mechanical properties, processing characteristics , but its wet skidding resistance improved while the rolling resistance remained lower.
