Powder quartz mineral is a kind of natural mineral bed of powdery quartz. It is easy to process, made of fine particles and used widely. It is easy to exploit, which make its price low, and can be used without grinding. What's more, powder quartz has a series of good physiochemical properties, so it can be used in many fields such as ceramics, fire-proof materials and filler in plastics or rubber. Powder quartz has been a new important mineral material in industry.Though the reserves of powder quartz mineral are very rich in the western region of our country ,it hasn't been widely used and the quantity of the used is very small, for the reason that the techniques of its deeply processing is far behind in our country. Modifications of powder quartz surface is one of the effective methods and important techniques to optimize the properties of powder quartz, to exploit its new using fields and to promote its industry value and additional value.The article introduces the main properties and uses of powder quartz, analyzes the situation of powder quartz surface modification research, and covers the modification experiments according to the questions lying in the powder quartz modification research at present. We try modifying powder quartz surface through the method of mechanical chemistry ,hoping to enhance the modification results through the function of more kinds of force. We modify powder quartz surface through four methods ,which are modifications with the ester aluminate DL-411,with the silane KH-570,with the mixer of ester aluminate DL-411 and silane KH-570(mixing modification), and the modification with ester aluminate DL-411 first and with silane KH-570 second(compound modification),hoping to lower the modification price through using the ester aluminate DL-411 and the silane KH-570 together at the premise of not weakening the modification results. The modification results are characterized through many methods such as viscosity, soakage property active index, IR and filling experiment, in order to gain more accurate results. Through analyzing the characterization results ,the modification mechanisation is discussed and the modification process is optimized.
