The chemistry of organic-inorganic coordination polymers has recently become area of increasing interest. Self-assembly of organic ligands and inorganic metal ions is one of the most efficient and widely used approaches for the construction of organic-inorganic composite materials. In the thesis, a series of novel symmetric or unsymmetric fulvene ligands with five-membered heterocyclic ring-containing as terminal coordination sites were synthesized. The coordination chemistry of these novel ligands with transition metal ions was investigated. In addition, two bi-1, 3, 4-oxadiazole -containing ligands and five flexible schiff-base ligands have been designed and synthesized. the coordination chemistry based on them with metal ions was investigated, too. Totally 22 new coordination polymers were prepared by solution reactions and fully characterized by IR, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1. Eighteen new Ag-containing coordination polymeric compounds generated from the new fulvene ligands and AgX (X = ClO4-, SbF6-, OTf-, PF6-) have been synthesized: [Ag2(L1)3](SO3CF3)2 (1), [Ag(L1)]ClO4 (2), [Ag(L1)(C6H6)SbF6] ·0.5(C6H6)·(H2O) (3), [Ag(L15)]SO3CF3 (4), [Ag(L2)SO3CF3]·0.5(C6H6) (5), [Ag2(L2)2(SO3CF3)2]·2(C6H6) (6), [Ag(L2)(SbF6)0.5(μ-bis-C6H6)]·H2O (7), [Ag(L2)(H2PO4)]·0.5(C6H6) (8), [Ag(L3)(SbF6)]·(C7H8) (9), [Ag(L3)]PF6 ·(C7H8) (10), [AgL4]SO3CF3 (11), [AgL5(H2O)]SO3CF3 (12), [Ag3(L6)2] (ClO4)3·2(C6H6) (13), {[Ag(L8)]SbF6}·(C7H8)·0.5(C6H6) (14), [Ag(L8)] SO3CF3 (15), [Ag(L10)(C6H6)]PF6 (16), {[Ag2(L12)(C6H6)(SbF6)]SbF6} ·2.5(C6H6) (17), [Ag(L13)(SO3CF3)]·0.5(C6H6) (18). Their single crystal structures and luminescent properties were investigated in the solid state. 2. Two new Ag(I)-containing coordination polymeric compounds based on bi-1, 3, 4-oxadiazole-containing ligands (L17), namely Ag(L17)PF6(19) and Ag (L17)SO3CF3 (20) were obtained. Their single crystal structures were investigated in the solid state. 3. Two new Hg(II)-containing coordination polymeric compounds based on flexible schiff-base ligands (L20), namely HgBr2(L20)·CH3OH (21), HgI2(L20)·CH3OH (22) were obtained. Their single crystal structures were investigated in the solid state.
