In this paper, the present foreign and domestic research on computer numerical simulation of casting solidification process is introduced. Some of the foreign and domestic famous software on computer numerical simulation of casting process has been listed which indicates the difference between our country and the foreign. On the same time, the purpose and the significance about selecting the subject have been analyzed. The author has studied the temperature fields of ductile iron casting solidification process. Fully considering the boundary conditions and the latent heat of solidification, the mathematical model has been established according to the practical situation. On this basis, the temperature field of ductile iron casting has been simulated. On the treatment of the latent heat of solidification, the temperature compensation method and enthalpy method are used. On the basis of temperature field simulation, the shrinkage cavity and porosity of ductile iron casting is predicted by the criteria of " DECAM(Dynamic Expansion and Contraction Accumulation Method)" .By using the software of Microsoft Visual C++6.0 and the language of C++, the program of ductile iron casting computer numerical simulation is developed. The computer simulation results are compared with the results of using Qinghua University' s FT-star software and the two simulation results are basically conformed. The research results show that the program of ductile iron casting solidification computer numerical simulation can simulatethe casting' s temperature field and predict the shrinkage cavity and porosity. And it has actual and theoretical meaning in improving ductile iron casting technology, heightening product quality and enhancing economy benefit.
