Column gear mechanisms are widely applied in multifarious machine; they are used to transfer drives and sports between arbitrary two axes in space. With development of technology, it required that gear machining accuracy become higher and higher. In order to produce qualified gear, machining methods also continuously are improved. For some special gears, e.g. double-gear or gear with requirement of high surface roughness, we must machine it by pinion-shaped cutter. Especially, for those special volume-produce gears in automobile and motor industry, generating process, shaving process and gear lapping with corundum process are often used. As the ability to correct the gear-shaped error of gear lapping is finite, accuracy of spare lapped gear is not less than 8-rank and accuracy of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter that is used to produce it is often A-rank.Because accuracy of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter is very high and its gear-shaped is very difficult, formula of design is very complex, Manual calculation is used in the traditional design of pinion-shaped cutter, which is tested for many times according to the experiences of designers. The design method is inefficient, takes much time, and requires highly of designers, and can only design a preshaving pinion-shaped cutter every calculation.Currently, As the course of market globalization and economic incorporation quicken, competition in manufacturing become serious. In order to win the competition, shorten the design time and increase the design reliability, CAD technology is necessary to use in the design of complex cutting-tools. Accordingly,cutting-tool CAD/CAPP/CAM integration comes true, and benefit of cutting-tool enterprise is improved.Considering above reasons, the principles and methods of software engineering are followed in this paper, and the CAD system of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter is developed with the techniques of OOP, ADO and ARX.The modular programming method is used in preshaving pinion-shaped cutter CAD system, which divides four modules of the whole system: instance management module, design and calculation module, graphic manipulation module and repository management and maintenance module. By instance management module, system decides to whether designing new cutting-tool is required. By design and calculation module, design and calculation of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter can be accomplished. By graphic manipulation module, cutting-tool drawing is complete. By repository management and maintenance module, Design information is managed.Target of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter CAD system: 1. after customer input parameters, system can automatically complete parameter's selection and calculation; 2. System can automatically select primary techno-condition of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter; 3 automatically to draw; 4 to manage the cutting-tool product.With the preshaving pinion-shaped cutter CAD system, the design level, quality and efficiency of preshaving pinion-shaped cutter design can be improved, the competition power of new products can be enhanced, which settles the foundation for the producing-modernization of cutting-tools and has high usage value and wide application prospect.
