High Styrene Butadiene Rubber (hereinafter referred to as HSBR) refers to the polymer obtained by polymerization of styrene with high content of styrene and butadiene. Because HSBR can enhance rubber products' rigidity, hardness and abradability when used together with other synthesis rubber and natural rubber, it is now widely used abroad. On the basis of successful operation of the pilot HSBR of LCIC's Research Institute, this topic deals with the industrial scale-up study and design in order to decide the necessary technical parameters in the production of HSBR, form a plant of 2000MTA HSBR, realize a continuous production of HSBR.Scale-up of the polymerization reactor is the bottleneck of the engineering scale-up . If the geometric similarity is only used to amplify the polymerizer, it is very difficult to satisfy simutaneously geometric similarity, motion similarity and power similarity. Therefore, the determination of design parameters for the scale-up of the polymerizer this time is based on the scientific analysis of relevant factors during polymerization and with reference to the test result, thus realized the similarity of key parameters of the big and small polmerizers and the process similarity. The successful scale-up of HSBR polymerizer and SBR-1502 latex polymerizer provides reliable basis for future scale-up ofbutyl styrene series.The scale-up of degassing tank is base on the principle of saving cost, so the principle of using the same degassing tank for both HSBR emulsion and SBR-1502 latex is established. Based on the conditions of pilot operation, the choice of equipment and the determination of technical parameters is calculated according to one time's charge of material and intermittently required quantity. Thus the unreacted monomer in HSBR emulsion and SBR-1502 latex can be controlled alternatively by the degassing tank so that one equipment is used with two functions.For the existing deficiency of dewatering in the original double screw extruder and boiling bed which directly affected the quality and production of product, careful analysis is carried out and find that the double screw extruder has the ability to extrude and compact the materials, so it is very difficult to remove the volatile elements and water. For this reason, a new process of extrusion, expansion and drying is adopted. Single screw extruder is used which can achieve fluffy drying of materials and easy dye application, and the problem in the drying system's production is also solved, thus increase the plant's production capability.Through engineering scale-up , the aim of industrial production of HSBR is reached. After test of the plant, both the product's production capacity and quality meet the designed parameters and provide testimony for scale-up of 10 thousand production plant. It also provides referable experience for the scale-up of other latex plant.Due to the wide use of HSBR in the market, after the HSBR plant is put into production, the product completely replaced the imported products of the same kind occupying the domestic market and bring economic benefits for the company.
