Microcellular plastic is a new kind of polymer, which has the cell sizes in the range of 1.0 to 10.0 microns, and the cell densities in the range of 1091012 cells per cubic centimeter. With these microcosmic construction, they exhibit excellent properties compared to the unfoamed plastic. To form large numbers of nucleation and to control the nucleation rate to avoid its size from swelling excessively are the two main technological difficulties during the production of microcellulars. In the present work, a novel procedure to prepare composite foaming agent by intercalation and subsequent decomposition process was proposed. It is expected to achieve a uniform dispersion of foaming agent between the host layers thus decrease the size of the cells. Additionally, the composites may have the merits of nanocomposites.The novel composite foaming agent, biurea intercalated montmorillonte, was prepared by intercalation of azodicarbonamide (AC) and subsequent decomposition process in the presence of mixed dispersant...
