The thesis of a master's degree concerns with the topic of historical research of ecological philosophy and its modern significance .Human socicty has begun its industrial modernization since the Industrial Revolution .On the one hand , man enjoys the material life with the the progress of science and technology and industrial civilization; On the other hand , as the ecological environment is deteriorating due to the side effects of industrial civilization, hence hampering human's existence and development, the ideologists wonders what has caused the strained relationship and how to usher in a harmony between humankind and nature. This thesis traces the background of ecological philosophy and ancient Chinese views about it from a historical perspective. It reveals to us what we can learn form these views to our sustainable development .Then we probe into the evolution and its divergence of western ecological philosophy(human centrism and nature centrism ) .We comment on Marx and Engels' views over this philosophy : their analogy about the deterioration of ecological environment owing to capital industrialization; their insight over the contrast between human and nature; the way to make human and nature harmonious ; the theoretical and practical significance to our nation's modern construction .The thesis points out the way of assuming a scientific development and sustainable development of ecological civilization following the analogy, comparison and contrast of past ideology of ecological philosophy. It argues that scientific views of development receive its nutrition from those of sustainable development and surpass them. It also proposes the way and measures to realize the harmonious coexistence of human and nature by carrying out scientific development from a perspective of ecological civilization. The thesis adopts the approach to roll into one logics and history, analogy and comparism, theory and practice.
