In the past decades, we have witnessed in research and development of nanotechnology, especially nanostructure materials. Nanoparticle materials of peculiar morphologic structure and surface property present great promise and opportunities for a new generation of meterial with improved properties for application in catalysis field. In this paper, needle-shaped and sphere-shaped CuO/Bi2O3 nanoparticle with diameters as small as 50nm were synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method and characterized by XRD , TEM, DRS, TPR and so on. The effects of preparing reaction conditions such as temperature, solution concentration and the dispersant PEG are studied in details. The catalysis of the different morphologies of nanostrcture CuO/Bi2O3 on 1,4-butynediol sythesis was investigated by slurry bed. Experiment results show that nano-CuO/Bi2O3 as catalyst has high activity and selectivity for synthesis of BD at the conditions of temperature 363K, pressure 0.12Mpa, 0.75g catalyst per 50ml formal formaldehyde (37%) solution loaded into the reactor. The yield and selectivity of BD are higher than the other catalysts presented in the literature.
