This paper studies the effect of separation factor to the sprayer abrasion process, the erosion-corrosion mechanism of the sprayer material and the atomization effect systematically. Based on those studies, improved structural design parameters and material have been suggested and adopted on new commercial sprayers and much longer life has been achieved with good atomization quality and satisfactory yield. In this paper, a new design of large pressure sprayer used in MAP production is provided, a modified Doumas equation for improved large pressure sprayers is deduced and then, new material, YT15 and SiC that have never been used in MAP production are used to make the sprayers. On site test in the factory are carried out to check the new sprayers' life and study the factors of atomization effect. Through the experiments in the lab and SEM studies, the abrasion mechanism of the materials is studied systematically and the abrasion mechanism is deduced. The relationship between the discharge coefficient and design parameters, the yield and the sprayer structure, the sprayer structure and abrasion are discussed. Furthermore, improving direction in the future is suggested.Study results indicate that it is necessary to reduce the trend of solid particles to closing the sprayer wall, namely reduce the separation factor. For large pressure sprayers used in MAP production, the abrasion resistance of materials are SiC>YT15>YG6X>YG8. The material abrasion mechanisms of large pressure sprayers are as follows: â‘  For cemented carbides, the first step is the wipe of the felt metals, then is the wipe of the carbide particles. In this process, there is thesynergistic mechanism of erosion and corrosion, the corrosion speeds the erosion up and the synergistic effect is one of the most important reasons of fast material loses. At the same time, the wide size distribution of the carbide particles and the pores appeared in the material are also the reason of fast material loses. (2) For ceramics, the higher the hardness, the lower the rate of erosion. For ceramics, the denser the material and the smaller the particles, the higher the erosion resistance of the material.
