The pollution of SO2 and " acid rains" have become a critical factor that restricts the development of economy and society in China. It is very important to find flue gas desulfurization technology due to its importance to solving the problem of SO2 and acid rain pollution. Desulfurization from flue gas by activated carbon has many advantages such as little wastage of activated carbon, low running expenditure, small equipment .It can also reclaim sulfur resource. All these advantages make it fit to the situation of our country and have bright prospect. In recent years granule activated is the main materials used in flue gas desulfurization. Its shortcomings is that it has high pressure drop when used in packed bed . So exploiture of a new activated carbon material have important role in resolving questions which exists in current technology of flue gas desulfurization. The honeycomb activated carbon is a new activated carbon material. The characteristic of honeycomb activated carbon is that it has low pressure drop. So this material has bright prospect in in flue gas desulfurization. In this paper honeycomb activated carbon was prepared from furfural residue, ACF, pohenolic resin , carboxyl cymene cellulose and clay. The preparation parameter and desulfurization performance of honeycomb activated carbon have been studied. The relative performance of honeycomb activated carbon has also been studied by modern testing such as XPS, XRD and BET. The result of this paper can offer some theoretics bases for realizing industrial application of honeycombactivated carbon. Relative experimentations and their result have been list as follows:1. In our experimental conditions the optimum preparation of honeycomb activated carbon were: carbonization 60minutes at 823K, activation 60min at 1123K, heat rates 5K/min, CO2 flow: 180mlVmin.2. Carbonization temperature, carbonization time, activation temperature, activation time which influence performance of honeycomb activated have been investigated. Activation temperature was the main factor that influences the desulfurization performance in our experimental conditions.3. The relationship between activation temperature and desulfurization performance, BET surface, surface element and functional groups, crystal conformation has been studied. The conclusion was that with the increasing of the activation temperature the BET surface of honeycomb activated carbon has become large, the size of graphit crystal minished, the graphit structure become out of order, and desulfurization performance enhanced.4. With the increase of content of ACF, the BET surface of honeycomb activated carbon has become large, the content of graphit carbon decreased, the activated atom increased and desulfurization performance increased.5. In our experimental conditions the bigger cell density of honeycomb activated carbon the better its desulfurization performance.6. The desulfurization process showed that when airspeed increased from 2800Nm3/h.t to 6000Nm3/h.t, the average efficiency decreased from 84.28% to 54.25%.With the increasing of packed height, the time which can maintain desulfurization efficiency about 50% increased first and then descended.7. Simulated flue gas desulfurization experiments have been carried out in the system which SO2 concentration was 3.5ml/L. Results showed that: the desulfurization performance of honeycomb activated carbon I was better than GAC-C, desulfurization performance of ACF was better than honeycomb activated carbon II .The discrepancy of behavior of different activated carbon materials for flue gas desulfurization is relative to their surface physical andchemical properties.8. The experiment of pressure drop showed that: in the conditions of high velocity of flow, the pressure drop of honeycomb was only 1/4 of sphere activated carbon , 1/10-1/4 of granule activated carbon .
