Dibenzylidene sorbitol is known as a gelling agent for polyolefln resin. It is a fine chemical used widly, and applied in plastics, inks, paints and household chemicals industries. The transparency and rigidity of a polyolefin resin is improved by addition of dibenzylidene sorbitol.This article contains the preparation of crude dibenzylidene sorbitol, a step of removing monobenzylidene sorbitol and tribenzylidene sorbitol from crude dibenzylidene sorbitol for containing monobenzylidene sorbitol and tribenzylidene sorbitol as by-product, a step of separating the solid from the mixture, drying the solid and recovering the dried product.The charging mass ratio of sorbitol and benzylidene, the reaction temperature, the reaction time were investigated to obtain a optimum conditions of synthesis.Under the optimum conditions of synthesis, the molar ratio of sorbitol to benzylidene is 2:1, reaction temperature is 75℃, and reation time is 4.5 hour, the yields of DBS were over 80% and the melting points were about 200 ℃...
