At first, the synthetical methods and the technical conditions of 4,4′-dimethyldi--phenylamine were studied systematically in the paper. Comparing the following synthetical methods, the self-condensation of p-toluidine, the reaction of p-toluidine with p-iodotoluene, the reaction of p-methylacetanilide with p-iodotoluene and the reaction of sodium p-toluidine with sodium p-methylbenzenesulfonate, the forth method was the most available, which yield was 50.71%, and the optimal condition of the route was that the reaction mixure was proceeded at 180~200℃ for 12h in the solvent of p-toluidine, and the molar proportion of sodium paratoluidine and sodium p-methylbenzenesulfonate was 4:1. Then 4-methyldiphenylamine and 3-methyldi--phenylamine were synthesized in the same method, the yields were respectively 85.00% and 81.28%. N,N,N′,N′-tetra(4-methylphenyl)-1,1′-biphenyl-4,4′-diamine(S-100) was synthesi--zed by two sorts of method of the reaction of biphenylamine with p-iodotoluene and the reaction of 4,4′-dimethyldiphenylamine with 4,4′-diiodobiphenyl, and the yields were respectively 53.70% and 93.28%. The optimal technical conditions of the later were that cuprous chloride and 1,10-phenanthroline were used as catalyzer, the molar proportion of catalyzer and 4,4′-diiodobiphenyl was 0.15:1, and the reaction mixture was refluxed for 7h in the solvent of xylene at 150℃. N,N′-diphenyl-N,N′-di(3-me--thylphenyl)-1,1′-biphenyl-4,4′-diamine(m-TPD) and 4,4 ′ -dimethyltriphenylamine were prepared by the reaction of 3-methyldiphenylamine with 4,4′-diiodobiphenyl and the reaction of 4-methyldiphenylamine with p-iodotoluene, and the yields were respectively 94.27% and 84.87%. The products were characterized by IR ,MS and EA, and the structure of the compounds was confirmed correctly. The organic photoconductive device of functional separation type was prepared with S-100 and TPD as charge transport materials, and with Y-TiOPc as charge genenation material. The test result of the device showed that the compounds had good performance of hole transport.
