The furfural refining unit takes an important role in the production of wax andlubricating oil processing. The extraction technology is employed to mainly separatethe non-ideal component from the ideal component on the basis of their differentsolubility in the lubricating oil. And therefore, the properties of the oil are improvedsuch as the oxidized stability, the anticorrosion, the viscidity and color and its remnantcoal value and the acid number are also reduced.The expected production of the Nanyang fine wax chemical plant lubricatingoil furfural refining unit was 100.8 kt/a when it began to normally run in September1997. Considering the commercial profit, the ratio of 5:5 of the sale incomes betweenchemic products and fuel products required the furthering transfer to wax fine chemicenterprise, which demanded the urgently expanding the processing ability ofparaffin-lubricating oil system. Therefore the micro-crystsalline project should beimproved to increase the output of deoilling light bitumen and vacuum side–cut.Subsequently, the production of the furol refining unit was raised from 100 kt/a to 150kt/a and the second vacuum side–cut, the third vacuum side–cut, the fourth vacuumside–cut and the fifth vacuum side–cut and deoilling light bitumen raw materialswhich were provided by atmospheric and vacuum distilling unit was able to be usedas the feeds of the unit and the quality of the products was improved at the same time.In this work, the alteration of the furfural refining unit was put on the calendar toenhance the operating capability and optimization on regarding the present unitconditions and the corresponding experiences of the other corporations. The goalsbelow have been reached: 1) the production is increased to 150 kt/a and 170 kt/a couldbe attained if necessary;2) The solvent exhalation percentage of the second vaporizerhas increased from 20% to 31% and the total percentages of the first vaporizer, thesecond vaporizer and the third vaporizer have increased from 94% to 97%;3) thethermal efficiency of the refining liquids heating furnaces and waste liquids heatingfurnaces have increased by 5.6% and 6.8%, respectively;4) unit energy consumptionwas only 726 MJ per ton and was dropped by 50.2% by comparison with that in 1998;5) the yearly consumption of furfural decreased from 2.78 kg/t to 1.14 kg/t;6) theanticorrosion ability was strengthened and the unit has become more benign to theenvironment. The alteration has produced a good profit, about 500,0000 yuan per year,to the enterprise. Simultaneously, it has become a model for the similar unit toenhance operating level.
