Through consulting a large amount of correlative documents and materials and developing experimental study, and after analyzed the emergence and development of indoor fire carefully, the author brings forward that the key measure to avoid malignant fire is to prevent the occurrence of the flashover, that is to prevent the fire from a small fire developing to the uncontrollable fire. Through serious analysis, the paper compares and analyzes every burning critical characteristic parameters that predict the flashover, and puts forward the concept of the effective fire load, and confirms to adopt the maximal HRR and the fire load as the critical characteristic parameters that predict and control the fire. Base on the domestic and foreign correlative documents and the existing achievements, This paper confirms the calculational methods of the main fire characteristic parameters that predict the flashover of the building. Through investigating every factors which affect the flashover in the room, the paper determines the computational method of the smoke temperature under the ceiling which is rised by the combustion in the initial period of fire, as well as the computational method of radiation through the fire source and the high temperature smoke to other combustible substances. After determined the radiation levels which the combustible substance possibly received in different location of the room, according to the HRR'regularity for change with the different heat radiation levels, the curve of HRR for each kind of material and product in the room may be obtained by the computer simulation. In this foundation, the method of curve superposition proposed by this article may easily obtain the total HRR curve and peak value of HRR by computer when a fire occurs in the room. In addition, this article also proposes the concept of fire retardant characteristic parameter of materials,the effective fire load,as well as the equalized coefficient of HRR. These will greatly simplify the computation and assessment method predicting and controlling the flashover in actual projects. In order to validate the correlative computation and deduction in this article, and further explore the way in which the flashover occurs, we also did the corresponding experimental works. The testing results in this article confirm the accuracy of the computation and deduction, and obtain the conclusion that using the flame-retardant materials and products may effectively control the flashover.
