With the development of industry, pollution for atmosphere has become increasingly serious and ozone layer has been destroyed. Because the increased amount of radiation of ultraviolet in the sunlight is harmful to people's health, the research of ultraviolet protective textile attracts more and more worldwide attention. This research is focused on improving ultraviolet protective ability of polyester and cotton. The surfactants which have good ability of dispersion and emulsification have been selected to compound several different kinds of ultraviolet absorbers. The attempt is made to study the new kinds of UV absorbers (UVS) and to select out S-61(a better UV absorbers on polyester fiber) and S-81(a preferred UV absorbers on cotton) from several newly absorbers together with Rayosan P, Rayosan C, Tinofast PEX, Tinofast CEL, which perform outstandingly in UV protection being used now through a series of comparison experiments. In the study of application of UV absorbers for Polyester fiber, the absorbers are applied to polyester dyeing together with disperse dyes by one-bath dyeing methods. The influence on polyester treatment and dispersed dyes used is discussed on the data of UPF, K/S, L, a~*, b~* and light fastness. The result shows that S-61 is best applied on polyester and with no adverse effects on dispersed dyes. In this paper, the treatment of UV absorbers and fluorescent whitening agents is applied simultaneously in one bath. UPF and whiteness show that all the used absorbers have some slightly influence on whitening treatment. In the study of application of cotton UV protection treatment, the best padding and curing process of S-81 is attained by controlling pH, temperature, bath-rate and agents. The result is that S-81 can react with cellulose fiber in 100℃ and the bath-rate of 1:10. At the same time, it is also suitable for pad-bake process. Its influence on the degree of white is fairly low. The application of S-61 and S-81 may have promising future.Jianning Wang(Textile Chemistry and Dyeing&Finishing Engineering)Supervised by professor Quan Zhu and professor Xiaoli Chen...
