This research was aimed to develop a noval technology for wastewater nitrogen and phosphorous removal. It was demonstrated through experiments that it was feasible for ammonia removal from wastewater using natural zeolite. The adsorption rate was fast. It also showed excellent adaption to variety water qualities. A new process called ZCS process (Zeolite Enhanced Contact-Adsorption Regeneration-Stabilization Process) based on this theory was then developed. A pilote scale experiment was carried out. The expected effect was achieved and the powdered zeolite could realize reusing.After the system came to stability, the RE (Removal Efficient) gradually brought back up due to the effectively bioregeneration with the biomass acclimation. The SRT (Sludge Resistant Time) could be increased to 40 days with the syetem operationing well. The sludge production rate and powdered zeolite addition amount were both low. The ammonium concentration RE reached to 79% when the influent came directly from the grit sedimentation tank. The COD of effluent was consistedly below 60 mg/L. With cooperated chemical thenology addition of the seven water combined ferrous sulfate to 30 mg/1 or the eighteen water combined alum sulfate to 50 mg/L could remove TP from 5 mg/1 to below 1 mg/L. For TN removal, when the influent was 36.9 mg/L RE reached 51.6%. The sedimentation property was improved greatly by the large density mineral as the sludge floe matix. At the same time the condensation property was better. After aerobic digestion for 23d, the degree of sludge stability met the corresponding standard. The sludge partical size was improved by the zeolite addition and the dewatering capability increased with the waste sludge tending to be treated and disposed. This sludge product suited land using more.This process was easy to operate. Either the zeolite addition or the sludge piping could be realized in engineer. The idea of adding powdered zeolite to activeted sludge process fitted the concept of circulation economy. A proper aplication will product a great deal of economic benefit and social benefit with wide future.
